Tools and recommendations for choosing a home water heating system

In order to decide which heater and panel/s are most suitable for you, a number of factors must be considered:

Roof type, boiler volume, type and size of panel/s, installation direction, and price.

Also whether the purchase is:

Replacement – Replacement of an existing boiler and / or panel/s.

Installation – New installation of a system on a roof that has neither panels nor a water tank.

The following is a lot of information that will help you in your decision and lead you to the right price.

Roof type

  • Flat roof
  • Asbestos roof
  • Tiled roof
  • Installation in the yard (usually on a stand)

Available options:

  • Boiler in vertical position (standing) + panel/s
  • Boiler in horizontal position (lying) + panel/s
  • Boiler and panel/s in standing position on the roof (flat roof / tiled roof / asbestos roof)
  • Boiler and panel/s in horizontal position on the roof (flat roof / tiled roof / asbestos roof)
  • Boiler on a flat roof and panel/s on a tiled roof
  • Boiler under a tiled roof in standing or lying position and panel/s on the tiled roof
  • Boiler in standing or lying position on a stand in the yard of the house + panel/s

The influencing factors are:

  • If there is enough space to install the system and easy access for maintenance.
  • If there are no tall buildings or trees or an elevator room that casts shade most of the day on the area intended for installation.
  • Where is there more space and convenient access for maintenance, above or below the roof.
  • When the boiler is installed under the roof, will its lower part always be at a height above the upper part of the panel/s? (Condition for choosing this option) If you do not know, please call the telephone number provided for free consultation.
  • Is the installation of a boiler above the roof suitable for the environmental appearance of the area, and is there approval from the authorities for such an installation?
  • Is the roof a common roof with other neighbors? If so their approval should be sought.
  • Is the location intended for the installation of the panel/s facing south?
If you do not know, call the telephone number provided for free consultation.
  • Usually in old tiled roofs or if the boiler cannot be installed under the roof, the installation should be carried out on a suitable stand. (special stand)
As this installation is special, please contact the telephone number provided for advice.

Boiler volume

The choice of the appropriate boiler volume must take into account the number of rooms in the house, consumption habits, and the number of persons using the boiler.

We recommend the following ratio that is common in most places in the country.

1. Water tank size:

The required amount of hot water per person ranges from 30 to 40 liters per shower on average.

When choosing a boiler, the size of the apartment and the hot water pipes that are installed in the house and/or from the roof must be taken into account.

  • A family of 2 needs a water tank with a volume of 80 liters.
  • A family of 3-4 needs a water tank with a volume of 120 liters.
  • A family of 4-5 needs a water tank with a volume of 150 liters.
  • For a family of more than 5 it is recommended to install a 200 liter water tank.

Note: Boilers installed in a standing position are more efficient than boilers in a horizontal position, and are supplied with a fast heater.

Panel/s

Nimrod has a large selection of solar panels, and it is likely that more than one option can suit you, so read the explanation below and see the attached catalogue for more detailed information that will make your decision easier.

2. Panel type:

  • The type of panel will be determined according to the boiler volume and the heat output of the panel.
  • Installation method (vertical / horizontal)
  • Open / closed loop system
  • Installation area – in areas prone to extreme climatic conditions (frost)
it is preferable to purchase galvanized iron pipe panels (Schedule)

Available options:

  1. Panel/s with a steel galvanized frame and copper piping
  2. Panels/s with a galvanized steel frame and Schedule piping (seamless iron)

Panel positioning:

The panels should be installed facing south as much as possible.

A deviation of up to 15° to the east or west is permitted without increasing the output.

Place the panels facing the horizon at an angle of 31°–50° without increasing output.

If you do not know, call the telephone number provided for free consultation.

Panel’s piping:

  • Panels with copper piping produce more energy per unit area. The heat transfer in them is higher than the Schedule panels.
  • Panels with Schedule piping are recommended for installation in areas prone to extreme climatic conditions (frost). The accumulation of scale in them is lower and they have a particularly long lifespan.
